Paints for stained glass: grisailles, silver yellow, enamel.

Paints developed in collaboration with the Historical Monuments Research Laboratory, the grisailles have a base composition similar to that of the Middle Ages.

Grisaille is a paint made from mineral pigments (metal oxides) dispersed in a glassy matrix (flux).

All the shades in our palette are mixable with each other. The proper application of these paints will ensure your creations have a durability equivalent to the most prestigious stained glass windows.

During firing, the grisaille melts onto the softened glass and fixes itself as it cools. Depending on the thickness of application, the paint is either opaque (lines) or translucent (shapes).

Note: The grisailles are colored in transparency but do not transmit colored light. Composition: Roccaille flux 5 SiO2 - 4 PbO + Metal oxide pigment.

    Application :

Distilled water and gum arabic, or other binders commonly used in workshops. Vinegar is not recommended; if used, tests should be conducted.

    Fire :

Minimum 620°C up to 750°C and higher depending on the colors. A 1-hour hold at the firing temperature is recommended. Appearance: The surface appearance after firing is matte or satin. The color of the grisaille remains the same before and after firing.

Stains are obtained with is a chemical reaction in the glass, during firing. Glass becomes colored on surface but remains transparent.

    The transmitted light is coloured.
