1 soldering iron 140W with soldering iron tip
Ref : SO-00045 : Zevatron soldering iron 140W with its tip
Professional, robust equipment, ideal for soldering leaded stained glass. I've been using this soldering iron since 1990 and it still works well.
-------------
We recommend using it with the Zévatron control system, also on sale in the shop:
The control allows you to obtain the ideal temperature according to the size of your welds and your working speed.
------------
When soldering leaded stained glass, we recommend that you use the flat side of the iron tip for best results.
Surface preparation
If the metal is too oxidised, start by rubbing it with steel wool. Then vacuum up the residue to ensure a clean surface. Make sure you also apply a suitable stripper, specially designed for lead, before soldering.
Soldering technique
Place the tip of the iron in direct contact with the two parts to be soldered so that the heat is transmitted efficiently. There's no need to apply extra pressure: the weight of the iron is enough to ensure a good fusion.
Maintenance of the soldering tip
Wear on the soldering tip varies according to the frequency of use and the type of stripper used. When the tip shows significant wear (a hollow, for example), proceed as follows:
1. Gently file the tip flat.
2. Heat the iron.
3. Tin the purlin by soldering a few seams on a piece of lead.
(Be careful not to file the tips of other soldering irons without checking that this is possible. Most iron tips cannot be filed).
